Colors of the Miniature Pinscher The following is used with permission from G. Curran who posted it to an e-mail mailing list and gave permission to use it.
THE MINIATURE PINSCHER HAS TEN [10] NATURAL
POSSIBLE COLORS WITH SHADE VARIATIONS IN EACH
BLACK AND RUST OR TAN
CHOCOLATE AND RUST OR TAN
BLUE AND RUST OR TAN
FAWN / ISABELLA AND RUST OR TAN
RED
4 STAG REDS WITH BLACK, BLUE, CHOCOLATE OR ISABELLA INTERMINGLING HAIRS
THE SELF COLORED RED ......... WHERE THE COLOR IS A VERY CLEAR RED WITH A SELF-COLORED NOSE. THIS IS DIFFERENT THAN A RED WITH BAD PIGMENT THAT WE SEE QUITE OFTEN IN THE RING THAT HAS BEEN "FIXED" COSMETICALLY TO DARKEN THE NOSE AND NAILS (Note: AKC listed a self colored red a friend owned as TAN many years ago, he was also referred to as a DILUTE RED and a CHAMPAGNE FAWN by breeders)
End of G. Curran's Quote and I added the pictures of my own dogs. There is NOT suppose to be any white on a Miniature Pinscher. Many puppies are born with some white but normally this goes away by the time they are a 8 weeks old. There are many colors that are considered gone. The Harlequin, a merle colored dog, and Brindle to name two. I've recently seen 2 brindles and both parents appear to be 100% Min Pin. Normally when you see brindles and other odd colors, there is a mix in there somewhere. Everything I've read about the Harlequins from the past and in my research has mentioned them to be merle in color.
